By : Odun Edward, Ilorin
The fake blue-coloured version of the one hundred naira notes is very common in Ilorin, Kwara State. The victims are unsuspecting traders, who only discover the fake bill hours after the customers had left their shops or sales points. Ayinke Abdullahi, a wholesaler on provisions and cosmetics at the ‘Oja Tuntun’ area of the metropolis, repotrtedly discovered over 25 pieces of fake notes inside one of the bundles of naira notes exchanged for goods by one of her customers. Similarly, Folashade Francis, operating a Point of Sale (POS) outlet at Offa Garage Road, said she found over 15 notes of the same denomination in a lump sum handed over to her by an unknown customer. Saka Mumini, a butcher at ‘Ori-Oke’ Basin area of the town, detected the counterfeit money in an unnamed commercial bank in Ilorin while making a deposit after a day’s sale.
