Namibia names new central bank governor from next year - REUTERS
WINDHOEK, Dec 19 (Reuters) – Namibia’s president said on Friday that Ebson Uanguta would take over as central bank governor from January 1, replacing Johannes !Gawaxab whose departure was announced last month.
Uanguta has served as one of the Bank of Namibia’s deputy governors since January 2012.
President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s office said in a statement that Uanguta’s appointment as governor was for five years.
Gawaxab was appointed in June 2020 and steered the central bank through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Under his tenure resource-rich Namibia became an exploration hotspot for global energy companies. It is aiming for its first crude oil output by 2030, which could transform its small economy.
