MUMBAI, Nov 26 (Reuters) – Nigeria’s Dangote has signed a contract with Engineers India Ltd to help double its refining capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day (bpd) in three years, its head Aliko Dangote told a press conference in Mumbai on Wednesday.

EIL, a New Delhi-based Indian company, provided the project management consultancy and engineering, procurement, and construction management for the 650,000 bpd refinery.

The refiner also plans to shut its gasoline producing residue fluid catalytic cracker (RFCC) for five weeks in December-January, Dangote said.

Dangote’s refinery, the largest in Africa, was built by billionaire Aliko Dangote, and has undergone several rounds of maintenance this year. The RFCC suffered an outage in August and was brought online in October.

“There is a little bit of design issue with it, which was rectified (during the outage),” Dangote said.

The company also plans to expand its urea production capacity to 12 million tons per year from 3 million tpy currently in a span of three years.
