Naira depreciates, sheds N3/$ at official FX market

The Nigerian naira slightly depreciated against the United States (US) dollar, trading at N1,375.4580 at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) official foreign exchange (FX) window on Friday, 22nd May, 2026.

The data shared on the CBN’s official platform shows that the naira traded at the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM) rate of N1,375.4580 per dollar and closed at N1,375.0000 per dollar.

Tribune Online reports that the Nigerian currency on Thursday, 21st May, 2026, traded at an NFEM rate of N1,372.3079. Comparing this with the trading rate on Friday, 22nd May, 2026, the Naira depreciated by at least N3.   

At the parallel market, the naira-to-dollar buying and selling rates decreased by N2 compared with the previous trading rate on 21st May, 2026.

According to AbokiFX,  the Naira-to-dollar exchange rate at the black market on Friday, 22nd May, 2026, was N1,390 for the buying rate and N1,395 per dollar for the selling rate.
